Tile Set 3 - The King's Road PREVIEWPublisher: Paper Realms

    The King's Road

Another preview tile set from Paper Realms! Like our other preview tile sets, you'll get six different tiles to let you build a variety of layouts. This preview represents my entry into the 2018 Cardboard Warriors' Papercuts Awards. If you've never been to the Cardboard Warriors forum, check out the link in the instructions and join in the fun!

    What is included:

6 tiles featuring tile sidewalks with dirt roads. 1" gridlines are also provided in a separate layer.

    What's in the full version:

Well, that IS the big question right now, isn't it! The full version hasn't been completed yet, so it'll have to remain a mystery for a while. Other full tile sets typically contain over 20 tile variations with customizable layers, so if and when a full version of this is completed, expect roughly the same.

    What is required:

    • Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to use the files provided
    • Heavy paper (100# cardstock or matte photo paper)
    • Printer
    • Hobby knife
    • Metal ruler
    • Cutting mat
    • Glue (optional)
    • Black marker (optional)
    • Foamcore (optional)

Infinite Space: Scavenger’s Survival Guide (SFRPG)Publisher: LPJ Design

Even in times of peace, the cold reaches of space pose many dangers and hazards to starships. Mechanical malfunction, rampaging space monsters, spatial anomalies, and destructive stellar events can threaten, damage, or destroy a ship without warning. As a result, the space lanes have become littered with countless derelict husks of spaceships. While the loss of a vessel represents a tragedy for her crew and owners, such an event offers an opportunity for scavengers (or, as they prefer to be called, salvagers). A salvage crew travels the space lanes in search of derelict or forgotten starships. When they discover such a vessel, they board their intended prize, assess its value, and strip it of everything useful. The scavenger’s life is a dangerous one; most people—especially those in law enforcement or the space navy—view scavengers as thieves or worse and treat them accordingly. Likewise, a salvage team never truly knows what dangers lurk on their intended prize. They may encounter booby traps, parasitic xenomorphs, virulent disease, or a desperate crew.

    This sourcebook contains:

    • two new themes, Bug Hunter and Salvage Expert

    • six new feats including Black Market Connections, Saboteur and Techno Savant

    • four new spells including Meld into Bulkhead and Speak with Vessel

    • New equipment. Computer-Targeted Grappler

FRPG6 Character Behavior EnginePublisher: Ken Wickham

Characters behave and react to stimulus which may be found in the behavior engine. This behavior engine helps create behavior styles for games and stories. This behavior engine takes into account 9 personality types, 3 mindsets, 9 stat archetypes, 9 virtues, and 9 vices. It can use the Dialogue Generator, Motivation Generator, and Character Communicator primarily.

It has a small character exploring game called 'Confront the Character' which can be used to explore characters and test tools.

I recommend having the Character Generator, Motivation Generator, and two 6 sided dice at a minimum. The Character Communicator, Dialogue Engine, and Body Language Generator can lend to adding interesting dialogue, action preference, and character reaction description.

This meant to aid or take the place of a Gamemaster (GM) for creating character behavior and actions. Behavior may vary by culture or region of the world.

This tables either suggest, or refer to four tables in the book. The keywords are meant to help trigger thoughtful and inspirational ideas. Its generic enough for any game or story genre characters.

8 pages: It's first page is the image shown on the cover thumbnail. The second is a BW title page. The third page is a table of contents and requirements to play, the fourth page is the introduction and behavior engine table, the fifth page is archetype and primary attribute tables, the sixth page is the stat archetype & virtue/vice tables, the seventh page is explains the archetype details, and the seventh & eigth page has the instructions and an example of the using the behavior engine.

This behavior engine recommends having the Character Generator for personality or vice/virtue influence, the Motivation Generator for motive influence, the Character Communicator for situation archetype function suggestions, and the Dialogue Engine for dialogue suggestions. Optional is the Body Language Generator to add non-verbal body language to the conversation.

Download the PWYW Character Generator to use as a preview of the personality types.

Savage Thunderscape: Aden Gazette 17 - ParadisePublisher: Kyoudai Games

WARNING: This is the Savage Worlds version of this product.

The Known Lands are a broad and diverse place, where most cultures and peoples have been identified long ago. But there are few who brave the inexplicably turbulent seas that surround the continent, and those who do know the truth: there are oddities beyond imagining found on the islands only a short distance from the mainland.

Paradise is one such oddity. Located far from the mainland, those who stumble across it might at first think its name is well deserved. The island is largely free from nocturnal threats, and there exists at its center a simple village of people who live a life free of worry and danger. But there is a dark secret lurking beneath the happy exterior of Paradise...

This sourcebook features 100 strange and unique things that characters in game sessions or stories might find while exploring a decrepit old home.  Oddities are the little touches that fill up the corners of lives. In our own mundane world, they might be limited to old, chewed pencils, unused key-fobs, or a half-finished decorative spoon collection awaiting the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore. In the worlds of our imagination, however, they can be so much more. What oddities might be found in the halls, on the walls, or occupying the shelves of a Creepy Old House? Let’s find out ... Oddities are intended to aid storyteller creativity, turning possibly bland areas or gaming episodes into something more. The goal of this publi...

Sewers figure in a lot of roleplaying games, especially those set in or involving cities and, from the lowly rat-slaying forays of fledgling heroes to quests against monstrous beasts that dwell within them, they can keep adventurers busy. They also can allow travel below, to, or through intervening places (including those you might want to visit even less than the sewer itself). Dateline: Lovecraft #1: Arkham, 1928Publisher: Cthulhu Reborn

Bring H.P. Lovecraft’s Arkham to Life with a Lavish and Detailed in-world prop: a full cover-to-cover issue of the Arkham Advertiser from 1928.

“It may be that centuries of dark brooding had given to crumbling, whisper-haunted Arkham a peculiar vulnerability as regards such shadows …” – H.P. Lovecraft, “The Shadow Out Of Time”

    —♦—

Arkham is one of H.P. Lovecraft’s most enduring creation, a witch-haunted town of clustering gambrel roofs, and home to the notorious Miskatonic University. It’s also a great place to set your investigative scenarios of Mythos-fueled darkness and horror. One of the best tools for bring such classic backdrops to vivid life is the use of “in-world” props and handouts. The act of receiving clues which evoke the rich tapestry of 1920s Arkham can draw players further into the setting and make everything seem that much more ‘real.’

    —♦—

Dateline: Lovecraft Issue #1 is a system-independent resource to help both Game Moderators and players of investigative horror games evoke a more nuanced and vibrant Arkham. The core of the package is a large and lavishly-researched and period-authentic newspaper prop, the full edition of the Arkham Advertiser for the day of Monday, 15 October, 1928.

Buried in the thousands of words of news, advertisements, editorials, columns, society pages, and other weirdness, lies a wealth of out-of-the-ordinary hooks which can be used as the basis for game scenarios. Picking up some of these strands, an imaginative Game Moderator can weave his or her own evocative Arkham tales of terror. Tales imbued with an authentic 1920s tone, and the unique quirky feel of H.P. Lovecraft’s brooding town.

    Montage of Dateline Lovecraft clippings

The core broadsheet newspaper prop comprises 12 very large pages (each approximately 6 x US Letter / A4 sheets). In addition, the Dateline: Lovecraft Issue #1 package contains a 58-page guidebook PDF which includes:

    • Detailed instructions on using the newspaper prop PDF to create physical handouts for players, with a variety of different effects;
    • A system of quickly finding relevant clippings from throughout the newspaper, and extensive indices of every person, place, and address mentioned anywhere in the paper;
    • Advice and ideas about using newspaper clippings as a springboard for adventures, or clues for investigation;
    • A campaign frame, “Inkhounds of the Miskatonic Valley”; and
    • A sample system-independent investigative horror scenario which ties closely into articles from the newspaper.

    —♦—

Publisher Note: Profits from the sale of the Dateline: Lovecraft, Issue #1 package will be used to fund the creation of supplemental PDFs which tie in with articles, columns, and other content from the prop newspaper. These add-ons will be “Pay-What-You-Want” titles, thus providing an inexpensive (or free) way for purchasers of the core product to extend the ways in which the product can be used in their games.

Dateline EXTRA! - Help Wanted (Un-Statted)Publisher: Cthulhu Reborn

“Who has been placing cryptic ‘Help Wanted’ Ads in Arkham’s newspaper? Any why does everyone who responds to one, vanish?”

    —♦—

EXTRA! “Help Wanted” is a short investigative scenario of Cthulhu Mythos horror, set entirely in H.P. Lovecraft’s fictional town of Arkham. It is not a self-contained scenario, but rather an add-on to the newspaper-based resource, Dateline: Lovecraft, Issue #1. To make full use of this PDF you will need to own a copy of that product.

    —♦—

The strange events related in this dark tale from legend-haunted Arkham center upon a strange series of ‘help wanted’ advertisements that have been appearing in the Arkham Advertiser over a period of months. Each advertisement has a very similar, and very odd, style but asks for assistance with a different – but equally specialized – skill. The advertisement runs sporadically for weeks on end, then disappears, only to be replaced with another variant version a few days later.

Anyone whose curiosity is piqued by these cryptic “want ads” will find themselves swept up in a most unusual mystery – perhaps one of the weirdest cases of their investigative careers. Why would someone have need of such oddly specific skills? What pattern is there in the serial disappearances? How do these events tie in with unbelievable tales about an 18th Century self-style sorcerer from Arkham’s dark past?

    —♦—

Dateline Lovecraft EXTRA!s are small supplemental PDFs which provide resources to help Game Moderators use the Dateline: Lovecraft period newspaper product as a centerpiece to their roleplaying games of investigative horror. Each includes a selection of game-related elements which can either be used collectively as a scenario relating to the core newspaper prop, or can be used in isolation to provide pieces that enhance a scenario of your own invention.

    —♦—

To make best use of this material, you will need to own a copy of the Dateline: Lovecraft, Issue #1 product, also published by Cthulhu Reborn. All profits from the sale of Dateline: Lovecraft are reinvested to fund the writing, illustration, editing, and layout of further free supplements like this PDF.
