To Blave! is a rules-light, classless Role Playing Game derived from KNAVE, the brilliant rules toolkit created by Ben Milton. To Blave! strives to extrapolate the elegance that is Knave. In effect, To Blave! is a "remix" of Knave with adaptations and extensions applied. To Blave! is less lethal, has variant vigor, magic, "practica", monster, and treasure systems and additional miscellaneous rules. (If you have neither game, please treat yourself to Knave first.) True to its lineage, altering To Blave!'s rules is both expected and encouraged.
To Blave! inherits many features of Knave from which it was derived, and mixes in many new ones of its own. These include:
Fast to teach, easy to run. If you are introducing a group of new players to rules-light or OSR games, they can make characters and understand all the rules in minutes.
Abilities rule. Armor, Agility, Lockpicking, Attacking, Casting, Hiding... everything is an Ability check.
Lists of immediate resources: 100 Spells, 20 Practica, 36 Monsters, 20 Monster Traits, 36 Magic Items and more. Enough equipment and items to start play immediately and enough patterns to facilitate expansion, whether by importing from OSR sources, future supplements, or building from scratch.
Compatibility with "Old School Revival" (OSR) games. If you have a library of OSR bestiaries, modules, and spells, minimal conversion should be needed to use them with To Blave! These are not required to play, but are a wonderful resource. Also, where practical, To Blave! includes concise rules and examples for expanding upon its own content.
No classes, yet specialization can be done (and undone) with practica. Every PC is a jack-of-all-trades, a tomb-raiding, adventure-seeking ne'er-do-well who slings spells just as easily as a blade. Yet, by focusing their vigor, PCs can gain more specialized talents. But never fear, just a few hours' introspection allows them to again alter this focus. This is an ideal system for players who like to play different roles in the party as the situation dictates. PCs' roles in the party are determined largely by the knowledge and equipment they bear.
